Motorcycle and Scooter Ride to Work Day is this Wednesday

Motorcycle and scooter riders' 16th annual commuting day is Wednesday, July 18th. Participation in the yearly demonstration is estimated to triple the number of riders on the road. Motorcycle and scooter groups and organizations actively encourage riders to commute by cycle on this day. On Ride to Work Day, motorcycle and scooter commuters seek improved employer recognition and support for this form of transportation and increased public and government awareness of the positive value of riding.

Adding more motorcycles and scooters to everyone's daily commute makes urban parking easier and traffic flow better, according to Ride to Work, a non-profit advocacy organization. Studies have also shown that across the same distances, motorcyclists reach their destinations faster than those using automobiles. Many motorcycles and scooters also consume less resources per mile than automobiles. "Riding to work on this day is fun and shows the positive value of motorcycling. For many people, riding is a socially responsible form of mobility that saves energy, helps the environment and provides a broad range of other public benefits," stated Andy Goldfine, this year's event organizer.

Mom and Dad

Mom and Dad at Beartooth Harley

A lifelong friend of mine, Scott Rock, sent me this photo a few days ago. He was looking at the Beartooth Harley website and this was in one of the photo sections. They look good. I don't recall that I have ever seen my Dad with a full beard before.

Finally, Diamondbacks On Top Again

What turned out to be an exceptional day in-between rain storms, was a very lively game. Battling all the way, Conner managed to catch the final out for the top of the 7th and keep the game tied.

Up to bat in the bottom of the 7th, runner on third, two-outs, Conner manages to hit a nice single bring the runner home and winning the game.

Last 2 Games Not so Good

The last 2 games on Thursday and Friday where not to good to the Diamondbacks. Sufferring from bad luck, fluke happenings and i guess school almost out, their game play was not good.

Conner Plays in Lisle Memorial Day Band

Conner Memorial Day

As par tof the school band, they played music as the participates drove past and assembled for the festivities.

Galfer rotor bad. Replaced with a set of EBC rotors.

The right-side rotor has been deteriorating for some time now so I thought it was a good time to replace it.

I went to the dealer and they wanted $430.00 each for factory rotors. I won't go into detail on what I thought of that. It reminded me why I didn't use factory replacements before. These rotors have been on for about 12,000 miles and for wear, they are still good with plenty of use left. However, the right-side rotor was beginning to worry me the last couple of months.

Diamondbacks Over Pirates, 11-9

In a great game to come back from bac-toback losses over the weekend, the Diamonds played strong to the end to move past the Pirates and take the game.

Back to School

It looks like I will be going back to school, of sorts, this summer.

As most of you know, I have been going to Paris with some regularity. I enjoy the trips immensely and have managed to get around fairly well - the French have been most accommodating. Each time I go I tell myself that I need to start learning the language so I will have a better understanding.

Make-A-Wish: A Million Birthday Cards

Yesterday Jess sent this email around to everyone in the agency:

sent by a friend:

Hi all,

Wanted to take a quick moment to let everyone know a great story I have to share.  A friend of mine is a school teacher.  In a staff meeting esterday, it was announced that another school teacher in NY has a sick
student, with a terminal illness.  He was selected by the Make A Wish Foundation to make one wish.  "Shane" asked for a million birthday cards this year.

I thought that I could pass this along.  Hopefully, everyone can take a couple minutes out of their day to write him a card and send it.  I am not sure what exact day his birthday is, but the cards can be sent now.

My friend’s school has already made 1200 cards, and I think we could contribute another 200.

Please pass this on to everyone you know.  I'd love for his wish to come true.

Senate Rejects Plan To Cut Off War Funding - KWTX

Why the hell do we bother putting these assholes in the Senate? The only power they have over Bush is the funding of this war. America needs to step up and demand accountability from all levels of leadership.
